Titanium Grade 5 Plate

Grade 5 Titanium, Ti-6al-4v, 6Al-4V Titanium

Titanium Grade 5 (6AL-4V) plate is an alloyed titanium product containing 6% Aluminum and 4% Vanadium; is a medium strength product. This titanium grade is predominantly used in airframe and turbine engine parts; and for use in surgical implants. Titanium Grade 5 plate is the most widely used titanium alloy of the alpha-plus-beta class, and is also the most common of all titanium alloys. The alloy is castable and is utilized "as cast" in sporting goods. The wrought material is used in aerospace, medical, and other applications where moderate strength, good strength to weight, and favorable corrosion properties are required. The alloy is available as castings, wire, bar, plate, sheet, forgings, rings, and billet

The most common market for 6AL-4V is aerospace. Lightweight grade 5 titanium plate is well suited for applications such as compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; airframe components; pressure vessels; rocket engine cases; helicopter rotor hubs and critical forgings requiring high strength-to-weight ratios. Ti-6AL-4V titanium plate stock is also age hardenable by heat treatment to achieve even higher strengths. This biocompatible material is also well suited for medical implants. Its mechanical and physical properties allow good capacity for titanium to join with bones and other tissue.

We are a worldwide supplier of Grade 5 Titanium plate – it is one of the most popular alloys in the titanium industry and accounts for almost half of the titanium used in the world today. Commonly referred to as Ti-6Al-4V (or Ti 6-4), this designation refers to its chemical composition of almost 90% titanium, 6% aluminum, 4% vanadium, 0.25% (max) iron and 0.2% (max) oxygen. It features excellent strength, low modulus of elasticity, high corrosion resistance, good weldability and it is heat treatable. The addition of aluminum and vanadium increases the hardness of the material in the alloy matrix, improving its physical and mechanical properties.

The development of many different alloys has extended the application of titanium in industries ranging from industrial and chemical processing to power generation. This grade possesses good weldability, strength, ductility and formability. This makes Grade 5 titanium plate is the prime choice for many fields of applications:

Titanium Corrosion Resistance

Titanium's outstanding corrosion resistance is due to the formation of a tightly adherent oxide film on its surface. When damaged, this thin invisible layer immediately reforms, maintaining a surface which is completely resistant to corrosive attack in sea water and all natural environments. This oxide is so resistant to corrosion that titanium components often look brand new even after years of service.
