Titanium Grade 4 Sheet

Alternate Names CP Grade 4 Titanium, CP 4, Grade 4, CP 70

Titanium Grade 4 Sheet has the highest strength of the CP grades, making it competitive with stainless steels for many corrosion resistant applications. Whilst the strength of Titanium Grade 4 is on a par with annealed stainless steels, it offers superior corrosion resistance and significantly lighter weight due to its low density. This alloy is also very resistant to many chemical environments including oxidising media, alkaline media, organic compounds and acids, aqueous salt solutions, and wet or dry hot gases. It also has sufficient corrosion resistance in liquid metals, nitric acid, mildly reducing acids, and wet chlorine or bromine gas.

Commercially Pure Grade 4 Titanium Sheet is a Grade of unalloyed Titanium. In Commercially Pure Titanium, the mechanical properties are controlled by the chemistry input; higher amounts of Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Iron will increase strength properties. CP Grade 4 is higher in strength than CP Grade 1, 2, and 3. It is sometimes referred to as “CP 70” due to its approximate yield strength. CP Grade 4 Titanium typically comes in the Annealed condition.

The development of many different alloys has extended the application of titanium in industries ranging from industrial and chemical processing to power generation. This grade possesses good weldability, strength, ductility and formability. This makes Grade 4 titanium sheet is the prime choice for many fields of applications:

  • Jet engine components
  • Aerospace fasteners
  • Marine and chemical processing and desalinization plants
  • Corrosive waste disposal wells
  • Pulp and paper production

  • Greater corrosion resistance
  • Higher tensile strength
  • Brilliant polish
  • Excellent machine strength
  • High creep resistance
  • High temperature strenght
  • Excellent mechanical properties

Titanium Corrosion Resistance

Titanium's outstanding corrosion resistance is due to the formation of a tightly adherent oxide film on its surface. When damaged, this thin invisible layer immediately reforms, maintaining a surface which is completely resistant to corrosive attack in sea water and all natural environments. This oxide is so resistant to corrosion that titanium components often look brand new even after years of service.
